Maquila takes force in NL

The manufacturing industry, maquiladora and export services (IMMEX) has a great relevance in the foreign trade of Nuevo Leon.
In fact, the state ranks second in national income from the foreign market for the supply of goods and services of IMMEX, behind Coahuila.
In this sense, exports from Nuevo Leon reached 23,400 million dollars in the first eight months of 2017, which meant an increase of 9.8% compared to the same period of the previous year; of the total amount, 70% corresponds to companies of the Association of Maquiladoras and Export Manufacturers in the entity, said its current president Ricardo Cantú Moncayo.
On the other hand, said that imports of IMMEX establishments increased 10.8% annual rate in the reference period, amounting to 16,400 million dollars.
Regarding the number of workers, at the August cut, the total was 280,618 workers insured in the Mexican Institute of Social Security, "it is direct employment, the indirect one is missing, which is multiplied by three", Cantu Moncayo explained.
In the first eight months of this year, 11,570 places were generated and total remunerations increased 10% in relation to the accumulated January-August 2016.
It should be mentioned that according to the indicators of establishments with IMMEX programs, of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, in the eighth month of 2017, Nuevo León ranked second in the number of establishments, with 12.7% of the total, behind Baja California (18.4 percent). And in employed personnel, the third place.
In the production value of the manufacturing industry, Estado de México and Nuevo León are the economic engines of the country, since both states contribute around a quarter of the total.
In Nuevo León, its main manufacturing sectors are transportation equipment (27.1% of total manufacturing) and basic metal industries (16.9 percent).
